Blackjack is the most popular casino game in the world because it has the perfect blend of skill and excitement. By mastering both basic and advanced blackjack strategy, you will be able to eliminate the house edge or possibly tilt the edge to your favor, which could make blackjack both fun and potentially profitable.

When playing blackjack online you will be dealt two cards, one will be face up for everyone to see and the other will be for your eyes only. The goal in blackjack, whether it be online or in a casino, is to beat the dealer’s hand. In most circumstances you will bet just once, before anyone receives any cards. Cards 2-10 have a point value equal to what card it is [I.E. A 6 of diamonds is worth 6], Face cards, [Jacks, queens, and Kings] are worth 10, and an ace can be worth either 1 or 11, depending on your preference.

If the dealer and the player both bust then the player loses, if the dealer and player tie then it is a push, and if the player beats the dealer he gets paid even money, 1:1, on his bet.
After receiving your two cards you will have up to five options. The first and most popular is the option to get “hit”, or simply take another card, you can also choose to “stand” which means you choose to stay with your two cards. You can double down after receiving cards, which means you wish to double the amount you bet. If you receive a pair [I.E. 2 4’s, 2 8’s, 2 jacks], then you have the opportunity to split your cards and play both hands. Also rarely some casino’s will give you the option to surrender, if the dealer gets 21 then you can surrender your hand before continuing and only lose half your bet.

You get an extra bonus if your cards add up to 21, either 3 to 2 [15 dollars won for a 10 dollar bet] or 6 to 5 [12 dollars won for a 10 dollar bet]. It is important to make sure to only play in casino’s that offer 3 to 2 bonuses, the house edge is dramatically raised when the bonus falls to 6 to 5.
