PRWeb is a well-known website that publishes press releases for many different industries. One of those industries, until recently, was the online gambling industry.

PRWeb is based in the state of Washington. Online gambling is considered to be a Class C felony in Washington State. Nowhere else in the United States has the same penalty for online gambling. When the law concerning this was passed, it seems that it was mostly done because of pressure exerted on the lawmakers by the land-based casinos in that area. As a spin off to the law prohibiting online gambling, PRWeb has been ordered not to publish any online gambling press releases.

Although PRWeb.com’s parent company, Vocus, is based in Maryland, this does not affect the ruling as PRWeb is operating out of Washington State. PRWeb has always delivered their press releases in a timely fashion, and has been much appreciated in the online gambling industry for promptly bringing information to the public.

PRWeb will continue to publish press releases that have no connection to online gambling. It is somewhat sad that even news articles are being banned, especially when they are published for not only nationwide consumption, but for foreign consumption as well. PRWeb owns a number of international web sites which distribute press releases in languages other than English.

Although PRWeb has been negatively affected by this move, other press release sites, which are not located in Washington, are hoping to move in on the market and supply all future online gambling press releases, not only in the United States, but also all over the world.
