Racetracks Lose Business to Online Casinos
Apr 24, 2009
A number of places that do not necessarily allow online casinos to operate do run legal horse racing tracks. Racetracks in both the United States and in Canada have recently found that they have lost a large portion of their expected revenue. There are many track insiders that are blaming the main portion of this drop in their revenue on Internet casinos.
With the hope of being able to recoup some of their losses, some racetracks installed both video lottery terminals and also slot machines to keep their bettors happy and to bring in some extra revenue. However, this solution did not bring in as much income as the tracks had hoped. It seems that horse racing tracks are going through a touch financial time that is similar to what land-based casinos are facing at this time.
Horse racing tracks have attempted to get online casinos banned in places where they are currently permitted, in order to remove some of the gambling competition that exists. Instead of finding better ways to keep up with the competition, the tracks would rather try to shut down any competition that is around.
Players that prefer gambling in online casinos are not likely to want to trade that gaming experience in order to go attend horse races and place their gambling money at the tracks instead. Online casinos have many attractions, including the ability to play in the comfort of one’s own home, with no need to travel to a casino or other gambling facility in order to play one’s favorite games.
