US Land-Based Casinos Wait to Go Online

Not only are the US and foreign online casino operators waiting for the day that they can go online legally in the US, so too are many land-based US casino operators. The expected change in the gambling laws have evoked interest from land-based casino operators who wish to open online versions of their land-based casinos.

Land-based casinos have been hard hit by the recession as fewer players have been traveling in order to play in their casinos. Las Vegas has noted a dramatic decrease in the number of players and revenue as the expense of air travel and gas have become a serious factor for players to consider in these economically challenging times. Land-based casinos feel that they may be able to keep their doors open with the additional revenue they could rake in if they had online casinos.

The well-known Harrah’s casino have already begun to make plans for an Internet casino website in the hopes that when the law changes, they will be able to secure a license. Las Vegas Sands and MGM Mirage are also hoping to join the online casino world.

The change in online casino law in France has already seen a move in the same direction, with well-known land-based casino operators opening parallel online casinos.

No-one is sure when the hoped for changes will take place. Some estimate months, and some estimate years. Either way, the large land-based casino companies plan to be ready the moment the law changes.
