No Transactions for Online Casino Operators at the Royal Bank of Scotland

all news

Online casino gambling has reached a point where there are strong opinions either for it or against it, and one of the largest banks in the world, the Royal Bank of Scotland, is certainly against it.

The Royal Bank of Scotland has informed the online gambling industry that they will no longer have any involvement in processing transactions for the Internet gambling industry. Online gambling operators have been given the option to keep accounts at the Royal Bank of Scotland, but this would necessitate a second bank account at a different bank to facilitate any gambling transactions.

The move to stop online casino transactions has come hand-in-hand with an announcement of a merger between the Royal Bank of Scotland and the ABN AMRO banking group, which is based in the Netherlands.

ABN AMRO is a Dutch bank, which may well be the reason that the Royal Bank of Scotland has made the decision not to process online gambling transactions. The Dutch government has already asked their banks to cooperate with a request that they stop processing online casino transactions. It is likely that the Royal Bank of Scotland has taken a similar step in order to keep the Dutch government happy.

The European Union has been frustrated by the Dutch and Swiss governments, who have been taking measures to ensure that their gambling monopolies are protected. Gambling monopolies in EU countries violate the European Union’s free trade agreement.
