Former England and Newcastle manager Sir Bobby Robson has died at the age of 76.

The former player and venerated club/national team manager will be best remembered for leading the England National Team to the 1990 World Cup Semi-Final – England’s best feat in the competition since winning the tournament in 1966.
The English football legend, who has steeped himself in football culture through his career, has managed a number of teams to reasonable success at PSV Eindhoven, Sporting Lisbon, Porto, Barcelona and Newcastle. The historic figure also managed Fulham before gaining covetous success at Ipswich winning the FA Cup and UEFA Cup in a managerial tenure lasting 13 years.

Robson was known to be battling with cancer in his twilight years after retiring as Newcastle manager, who later played a part for the Football Association of Northern Ireland as an Ambassador. In 2007 Robson showed his resilient character when he vowed to "battle as I’ve always done" after starting chemotherapy treatment.
A statement released on behalf of Robson and his family said: "It is with great sadness that it has been announced today that Sir Bobby Robson has lost his long and courageous battle with cancer. He died very peacefully this morning (Friday) at his home in County Durham with his wife and family beside him. Sir Bobby’s funeral will be private and for family members only. A thanksgiving service in celebration of Sir Bobby’s life will be held at a later date for his many friends and colleagues.‚Äù
