Virginia Lottery hopes to Introduce Online Gaming
Dec 21, 2009
Since there recession there has been an enormous decline in the sale of lottery tickets and in an effort to find new ways of recovering from a slump in sales, the Virginia Lottery has decided to try and turn to technology in order to increase their profits.
In an announcement made to WTKR News, the Virginia Lottery stated that they are considering adding an online lottery to residents of the state so as to enable players to play their favorite scratch tickets over the Internet. It is hoped that these games will also be hosted on cell phone applications as well as websites. This process could result in players no longer needing to go to a retailer to scratch off a ticket and brush away the latex but do so electronically.
However, before anything can materialize, lottery officials have stated that they will need to be very cautious and make sure to come up with restrictions and safeguards with regard to underage gambling and abuse. They are currently working on a system that will ensure this sensitive issue is covered.
Lottery officials are hoping that the legislation that is soon to be presented in Congress will be passed and will then open up venues for internet gaming. It is hoped that people will soon be able to play the lottery online and experience a new world of online gaming.
