Hawaii will stay Gambling Free

all news

Many vacationers may think it would be a wonderful think to walk along the gorgeous beaches of Hawaii and pop into the casinos along the way. However, this more than likely won’t happen any time soon, if ever.

Wednesday state lawmakers shot down a bill that would have allowed for casinos to operate along Waikiki Beach.

Some people are taking it as a positive thing that the public hearing even held. Some hope that this may lead to a victory for such a bill sometime in the future.

Hawaii is one of two of the only states that don’t allow any kind of legalized gambling or lotteries. The other state is the state of Utah.

Part of the reason this bill was even heard is due to the state of Hawaii suffering from a budget crunch which has been brought on largely due to the decline in tourism to the area.

If this bill had been approved, it would have allowed a casino to be located in Honolulu for five years and created a tax on those gaming revenues.

Some may be surprised to learn that the public testimony was actually against the bill and this was by a large margin.

One supporter stated that just one casino located in Waikiki could bring in as much as $522,000,000 in income. It would also bring new visitors to the area, as well as bring in money from local residents who would normally go to the state of Nevada in order to gamble.
