Nevada Casinos not for Higher Taxes

all news

Do to Nevada’s $900 million dollar budget gap; the tension appears to be building up between the land-based casino industry and the state legislators as legislators try to come up with a plan that would help repair the budget situation.

This budget gap has caused the state legislators to look toward the land-based casinos and consider raising taxes, it has been said that the casino industry should simply accept those higher taxes; this would be a way to help the state’s situation out.

However, this is not going over easy with the land-based casinos and in fact, is meeting much opposition.

State Legislature Speaker Barbara Buckley proposed that the Nevada land-based casino industry should ante up the cash to cover the operations of the Gaming Control Board as well as the usual taxes and fees.

The Nevada state legislators don’t plan on giving up and still have their sights set on the land-based casinos.

Steven Hansford, the Senate Majority Leader stated, “We are not done. Gaming must participate.”

If the casinos were to agree to the proposed taxes, many analysts do feel that it could really help out the situation. Not only would it help the budget, but it could also benefit the casino industry.

It looks as if there may be more talks in the near future about this matter since no agreement has happened thus far and both sides seem to be sticking to their guns.

Responding to the state legislators call for assistance, the Nevada Resort Association has stated that it was unable to “reach a consensus among our statewide membership” to support this proposal.
