The Night the Lights went out in Vegas

all news

March 27 is expected to be a much different night for residents and visitors in the Las Vegas area. The Las Vegas Strip will go dark in order to celebrate the annual Earth Hour event. This will be the second year in which Las Vegas has held this event.

This event has been designed and coordinated as a way to raise awareness to the global effects taking place. This hour of darkness will make its way around the world and hit the Las Vegas Strip at 8:30 local time.

This will be quite a sight as the large hotel and casinos will either turn out or dim their outside lights. Also, the government agencies will be dimming or shutting theirs off. This lights out period will last for one hour, making the Strip look completely different.

Managing Director of Earth Hour, Leslie Aun said that Las Vegas’ 2009 participation in the event had actually proved “critical” to bringing forward the advancement and popularity of the event.

One reason why it is so important for Las Vegas to participate in this event is due to the fact that it requires the cooperation of a lot of various businesses and public officials. This makes the city of Las Vegas a great representation of what the Earth Hour event should be all about; cooperation and involvement.

Anyone whom happens to be lucky enough to be in the Las Vegas area should make sure they witness the event; it is definitely something Las Vegas doesn’t see very often.
