Talk of Online Poker in Nevada Worries Many
Aug 31, 2010
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has made an important statement which states that he will be supporting the legalization of online poker. This is not a statement which everyone appreciates.
In fact, it troubles many in the state of Nevada due to the fact that it opens the door further for players to leave land based casinos and turn to the online poker rooms.
There is a bit of a twist to this story which is quite interesting. Reid had made this statement to executives whom were present at a meeting that he would not be supporting other types of online gambling.
If online poker were to be made legal it would make it that much easier for other forms of online gambling to become legalized not long after.
Some say that the legalization of online poker will lead to more legalized online gaming which will then lead to a loss of money from the state of Nevada.
The general manager of Baldini’s Sports Casino said if people want to see Nevada survive then they won’t open the door, even to online poker.
The fact is the state of Nevada thrives off its revenue generated from its casinos. This is what has surprised so many people when it comes to Reid’s announcement supporting online poker.
Reid’s statement of not supporting other types of online casino legalization isn’t helping those concerned to feel any better. It’s not reaching very far to assume that online poker would soon lead to the legalization of the other types of online gambling.
