It’s always been known what a dangerous sport the horse races are. Not only for the jockeys, but also for the horses participating in the races. However, no one could have expected to see the tragedy that unfolded on ladies day at the British horse racing’s premier event.

Ladies Day is generally a fun and exciting event which is known as a dress up day. It usually brings good spirits and a lot of enjoyment with it. However, this time it brought with it a few tragic occurrences.

Three horses died on Ladies day due to the unusually warm day and the track conditions which proved to be very dangerous.

Safety is always a concern when you have forty horses running at such high speeds. The conditions certainly increased the odds to have something negative happen, and it did.

Spectators could never have expected to witness not one, not even two, but three horses die when they came to the race track for Ladies Day and some good horse racing.

It goes to show that horse racing is indeed a dangerous sport and it can be significantly more dangerous depending on such things as weather and track conditions. There are a lot of variables that go into horse races which many people don’t understand.

To see three horses die at the same track on the same day is truly horrible and something which luckily doesn’t happen normally. Hopefully things will improve with the conditions of the tracks so we don’t see a re-occurrence of this tragedy in the future.

Michael V. Badalucco, accused last year of illegal involvement with sports betting has now pleaded guilty to the charges that were leveled at him. Badalucco had been accused of running a sports bookmaking business.

The 26 year old man admitted that he, as well as some others, gave bettors either access to a website, Best24b, or access to a toll-free number. Both forms of access were routed through Arizona, originating in Missouri, and went to a company that was located in Costa Rica.

By his own admission, Badalucco agreed that in February, 2009, he had called the company that was locted offshore, and cancelled a bet for one of his customers. In the telephone call, he identified himself as “George.”

The court records show that he collected cash from bettors, and also paid out winnings. This was done mostly on a weekly basis.

As part of the guilty plea, Badalucco gave up the right to have a grand jury review any evidence that the government had collected. He plead guilty immediately, and in return he has received immunity from having to be a witness in the prosecution of anyone else that may have been involved in the same illegal sports book business.

Although it is more likely that Badalucco will face between six months to a year in prison, it is possible for the court to sentence him for up to two years in prison.

Over the past six months, there have been around ten people who have been jailed for refusing to testify before a grand jury regarding information connected to illegal online gambling. At this time, none of those jailed have been charged with a related crime.

Ladbrokes, the UK gambling giant and one of the world’s leading betting and gaming companies, has announced that it has joined the European Sports Security Association (ESSA) thus making the company the first bookmaker with both an online as well as an offline operation to join ESSA.

By joining ESSA, Ladbrokes will be responsible for reporting any irregular betting patterns via the association’s Early Warning System in return for which Ladbrokes will be informed by legal and official sporting regulation bodies of any potential manipulation on sporting events.

The Secretary-General of ESSA, Khalid Ali, reported that this is a very important step to ensure that ESSA becomes the industry standard organization having the support of both online and offline operators. They welcome Ladbrokes who they are sure have an important contribution to developing industry-wide standards in that area and he urged all online and offline operators in the industry to work with ESSA.

Ladbrokes Trading Director, Mike O’Kane, commented on the move by saying that the European Sports Security Association is intent on improving the sharing of information between sports bodies and betting operators. He added that the issue is at present surrounded by rumor and sensationalism but that the incidence of betting corruption in sports is really minimal. The integrity and reputation of sport as well as its participants can be protected by giving regulators and sporting bodies a full and accurate picture of unusual betting patterns.

The European Sports Security Association was established by several sportsbooking giants in the industry and has, since 2005, developed a close working relationship and signed memorandums of understanding with UEFA and other sport federations such as IOC, the ATP as well as with FIFA.

Ladbrokes’ customers are very worried as a result of confidential records, which include their home addresses, customer account numbers, dates of birth, details of their gambling history, phone numbers and email addresses being offered for sale to The Mail on Sunday newspaper by a man with an Australian accept.

The mystery Australian man, who gave his name as “Daniel” gave information on 10,000 customers and also offered the newspaper access to Ladbrokes’ database of 4.5 million customers from the UK and other parts of the world. Daniel claimed to be a security expert who had worked at Ladbrokes in Britain at one time and also claimed to be representing a company based in Melbourne, Australia, by the name of DSS Enterprises. The Sri Lankan-born IT expert, Dinitha Subasinghe, who runs DSS Enterprises, has, however, denied any involvement in the theft of the data although Ladbrokes is listed as a client. Mr Subasinghe reported that he had provided analytical services to Ladbrokes for 18months during 2007 and 2009.

Daniel first approached The Mail on Sunday claiming to have worked as an IT security consultant at Ladbrokes for two years and had been passed the data by a junior employee who was trying to sell it. He was originally going to tip off Ladbrokes but then decided to contact the media about the security breach.

Ladbrokes is presently working with the police, the ICO as well as the newspaper in an attempt to identify and apprehend the culprit. They are also contacting their customers to reassure them that they are doing all that they can in order to protect their personal information and apologized for the breach of security. They added that they do not believe that customer accounts or banking date can be accessed.

Steve Fezzik, professional sports better in Las Vegas, Nevada has shown that luck really can shine down on you twice in a row. Fezzik finished the Hilton’s annual football handicapping Supercontest with the best record and won himself the grand prize.

This was the second year in a row that he achieved this win. This win brought Fezzik a win which totaled $196,800.

Jay Kornegay, the Las Vegas Hilton sports book‚Äôs executive director, has a difficult time even imagining such odds. “It’s such a long shot,” Kornegay said.

The Supercontest is a great win for anyone and it also makes for great bragging rights. However, Fezzik has doubled those bragging rights; he has an amazing story to tell. He had won over 328 other contest entrants.

The first win left Fezzik walking away with an extra $210,000. Although he won less cash this time around he says that he is more proud of this year’s performance. Half way through the season he was in 61’st place. It’s at that point that he began his upward run toward victory.

Fezzik put a lot of time and research on choosing his picks carefully. He also says that he tried to make sure that he made a point of not getting attached to a certain side. Whatever he did, one thing is for sure; he did it right.

Although luck had a lot to do with his win, careful research and selection on his part made all the difference.

Ladbrokes Plc, the UK gambling group, has started an intensive search for a new head after its current Chief Executive Officer, Christopher Bell, announced that he is stepping down from his post. There has have been rumors of dissatisfaction amongst shareholders of the company’s performance under Bell’s leadership, although Ladbrokes said Bell’s departure had nothing to do with his relationship with the company directors.

In an interview, the 52 year old Bell said that disquiet by some of the company’s investors was “one of the reasons why I thought it was time for me to let someone else have a go, though genuinely I had been considering stepping down in 2010. I never wanted to be one of those people who stayed on and then felt he should have gone earlier.”

Bell said: “There are shareholders who have not been happy. They have made their feelings known, in some cases quite vociferously, as is their right. I understand that. But it would be wrong to say they acted in concert.”

It is expected that Ladbrokes will search for a replacement from inside the company, although there always exists the possibility of finding a suitable external candidate. Headhunters JCA have been appointed to examine suitable candidates and names such as ex Marks and Spencer director Carl Leaver or easyJet bos Andy Harrison coming up in industry speculation.

Ladbrokes, one of the UK’s leading online sportsbetting and casino operators, has been caught in a scandal involving its refusal to pay out a punter over £7 million for betting on a white Christmas.

The player wagered £10 on two accumulator bets that 24 locations in the United Kingdom would see snow over Christmas. His predictions proved to be right and the ecstatic player headed off to Ladbrokes to claim his winnings which, according to his calculations, should have topped £7 million.

Unfortunately, Ladbrokes pulled out its rule book where it clearly states that players may not place accumulators on bets such as a white Christmas, something which the player says was not pointed out to him.

Instead, 52 year old Cliff Bryant was offered £31 – winnings that he earned for making 24 individual bets.

‚ÄúMy heart was beating fast when I thought I’d won but now I’m absolutely fuming. If I’d been paid I would have loved to have got my teeth done,‚Äù said Bryant.

The player will be consulting with the Independent Betting Adjudication Service to see how to proceed.

In the meantime, Ladbrokes said in a statement: “We apologize that a bet was taken in error. We intend to talk to Mr. Cliff to see if we can make it up to him.”

888poker.net has lost two of its’ co-founders within a very short time.

Shay Ben-Yitzhak, the Israel non-executive director of 888poker.net resigned recently in order to spend more quality time with his family.

888poker.net chairman, Richard Kilsby expressed appreciation on behalf of the board and all at the company for Shay’s contribution as one of the original founders of the business. Shay was instrumental in helping the company to grow from its infancy to where it is today. Kilsby wished Shay the very best for the future.

Another one of 888poker.net’s founders and one of Israel’s wealthiest men Aharon Shaked, died on Saturday at the age of only 58 after fighting a serious illness.

Aharon originally practiced as a dentist in Israel and during 1990, while attending a Dentistry Conference in Monte Carlo, he noticed crowds of people visiting the city’s casino. When he returned to Israel he decided to establish an online casino with his brother Avi. Neither Aharon nor Avi had any experience in gambling so they visited the casino in Taba, in Sinai where they learned how to play.

Thereafter the brothers contacted the Ben Yitzhak brothers who had the technological knowledge needed for their new venture.

During 1995 the four men took out a loan and bought a gaming license in Antigua for $100,000 and founded 888.

The company was floated on the London Stock Exchange during 2005 with the Shaked brothers owning 70% of the stocks. Aharon and Avi sold stocks worth $91.3 million and each held onto stocks worth $267 million.

Aharon Shaked was a modest man who preferred putting his profits towards charities for underprivileged children rather than spending it on luxuries for himself.
