AMERICANA
Americana is a variation of poker that is played with just 32 cards in the deck; the cards used are from Ace to 7 all others are discarded before play begins. A maximum of 6 players can participate in any one game due to the small number of cards used.
As in all forms of poker play moves in a clockwise direction, every player places an ante and is dealt 2 cards; the first card is dealt face down and the second face up. The player with the highest card showing has to “bring in” meaning place the first bet, if two or more players are showing the same high card the highest is determined by suit as follows Spades, Hearts, Diamonds followed by Club, action moves around the table and each player has the options to cal, fold or raise.
After the opening round three further cards are dealt to each player remaining in the hand one at a time, a round of betting follows after each card is dealt. After the final round of betting players remaining in the hand showdown their cards and the highest hand wins.
Hand ranking differ from standard poker variations from highest to lowest the Americana hands are: Royal Flush, Straight flush, 4 of a Kind, Flush, Full House, Straight, Three of a kind, Two Pairs, One Pair and High Card.
Note: A flush is higher than a full house in Americana poker.
