BADUGI
Badugi is a form of draw poker with its roots in Korea, becoming ever more popular in today’s modern poker world Badugi is a fixed limit poker game where the lowest hand wins; it is a four card game meaning the best Badugi hand is Ace-2-3-4.
Notes to remember: your hand must not contain a pair and must not contain 2 cards of the same suit; the suit of the cards does not affect the value of the hand as long as they are all different.
Play begins with the 2 players to the left of the dealer posting the small and big blind respectively; all players are the dealt 4 cards and action starts from the player to the left of the posted big blind, players can check, call or raise as in all limit poker games.
Between betting rounds players have the following options:
• Every player gets a chance to draw for new cards in a clockwise direction starting from the small blind position.
• Players can change all or none of the cards in their hand.
• Player’s cards must be discarded before getting new cards.
• The dealer always deals the new cards to each player from the top of the deck.
• If there are not enough cards in the deck, the discarded cards will be added to the deck to be reshuffled before more cards are dealt.
There are a total of 4 betting rounds with the above options between each, after the final betting round all players show their hands and the winning hand takes the pot. A Badugi hand consists of 4 cards all of a different suit however, you can have 3 card and even 2 card hands that can still win, and it’s simply a case of the lowest high card hand wins.
