LIMIT TEXAS HOLD'EM
Limit Texas Holdem Poker is played according to the usual Texas Holdem rules. What is special about it, is that the stakes that players can place are submitted to a set of rules. The rules follow from the description of the table or from the stake specifications. In contrast with No Limit Texas Holdem, here the possible stakes in the betting rounds are specified and not the Small Blind and the Big Blind. The first number is called Small Bet and the bigger number Big Bet.
If for example we have a table with a stake of 10 / 20, then you can read a Big Blind of 10. This is always the same as the Small Bet. From there it follows that the Small Blind is 5, which is usually half of the Big Blind. During these first two rounds this value for the individual stakes is established. This means that in our case it can only be increased in steps of this amount. The maximum amount of Raises allowed during each round is fixed and is usually four. In our example, at 40 (4x10) during the first two rounds and at 80 (4x20) during the last two rounds. As mentioned before, the amounts by which raises are allowed are in the last two rounds equal to the Big Bet, which is the second number in the stake specifications. In our example this is 20.
For whom is Limit Texas Holdem suitable
Limit Texas Holdem is a suitable variant of Texas Holdem for beginners and all players who like to take it easy. The chance that in a moment of elation you can loose all your chips very quickly gets very small. This is because the theoretically possible highest stake during a game is 24 times the Big Blind. With other variants of Texas Holdem all chips of the players would already be on the center of the table at this point. Don't forget that this highest possible stake will only occur if there are at least two players at the table who are highly convinced of their hands and raise when they can. This is a situation that happens rarely. What happens much more is that one of the players only calls, goes along and doesn't raise.
This is the reason why you will see less 'fanatics' at a Limit Holdem Poker table: players who love to shove all their chips to the center of the table, just to put pressure and steal blinds and then with a lot of luck win one or the other hand that comes to showdown.
Conclusion
Limit Texas Holdem Poker is therefore a good variant for beginners, who will not loose to many chips as a result of their lack of experience and will not become influenced by 'fanatics' at the table with their unmannered playing style. Also more experienced players might enjoy this variant once in a while, so that they can play poker without having to deal with these maniacs.
Please also think about the following: the maniacs and fanatics we talk about can be found especially in online poker games, and not so much in more social settings like poker casinos and poker clubs. This is because with online games players have no real chips in their hands and because of this will be more tempted to take risks.
