RUMMY
The object to a game of Rummy is to be the first player to run out of Cards, It’s an extremely popular game now frequently played on-line by thousands day and night. Rummy is dealt using one standard 52 card deck. To begin the game each player is dealt 10 cards and the remained are placed face down of the table, these cards are known as the “stock pile”
Each players acts in turn as usual the action moves in a Clockwise direction, each player must pick a card from the stock pile and try to use it to improve their rummy hand before trying to place “melds” rummy hands down and the discarding a card of their own to the stock pile.
Meld is the term used when a player places a rummy hand down on the table relinquishing those cards and moving closer to running out and winning the hand.
Players can meld in the following ways an with the following hand variations:
A Run: three or more cards in number sequence and the same suit, an ace can be used as high or low so an example run would be ace, 2 , 3 or 7,8,9
A Set: 3 or 4 cards of the same value i.e. 8888
Building: You can add your cards to other players melds which is known as building, if a player has laid 4,5,6 or hearts you can lay a card to build on this if it were the 3 or 7 of hearts.
Going out: When a player has laid all of their cards by melding, building or discarding their final card they have completed the game and “gone out”.
Going Rummy: The best possible way to go out in style, if a player has not previously laid any melds or disposed of any cards to the table but does go out in a single turn.
When a player Goes Out or Goes Rummy, all remaining players count up the points left in their hand. The sum of these points equals the winners score.
Rummy Scoring
When a player Goes Rummy, the remaining players receive 25 Penalty Points each.
- Ace = 11 Points
- 2-10 = Card Value (2 = 2 Points and 10 = 10 Points)
- Face Cards Also = 10 Points
Winning Score is decided before a game begins i.e. 50 Points to Win, 100 Points to Win, etc. Once a player has accumulated enough points, they have won the game!
If the stock pile gets down to 2 cards the hand is no longer played, all cards are returned, shuffled and a new game dealt.
Penalty Points create an exception to the payout rules. If any player has accumulated 100+ Penalty Points, that player cannot receive any of the prize pool.
